Character Interview

Karen Nappa interviews Laura Taylor, the main character in Trapped (Club Indigo #1)

Hello Laura, I believe congratulations are in order?

Thank you Karen, it’s really an honor to have James’ and my story published. Or do you mean my collar?

You and James are both fairly private people, what made you decide to participate in this novel?

I think we did it for several reasons. First because our story shows that it can be worth it to fight for something you really want and how important it is to communicate with your partner. The second is to tell people that you’re never too old to find love. The third reason is, I like sharing the beauty of a D/s relationship, because it has made me so much stronger. The most important reason is because I want people to know normal people with normal jobs and normal family lives have D/s relationships.

You had some difficulties with communicating with James in the beginning. How did you overcome your reservations?

(Laura laughs ruefully) Yes, I drove him nuts. Of course James is very persistent and patient. He kept coming back for me. What happened near the end of the story helped me put things in perspective and realize how much I loved him. I also learned that love doesn’t make you weak.

What would you advise a friend who wants to explore BDSM?

Join Fetlife and visit a munch or two. It can be scary to go by yourself, but it’s the safest way to explore. In general, the BDSM community is open and welcoming. Get to know people in the lifestyle in your area. Never meet someone you only know from the internet in private. If you want to meet that person do in public first or – even better – at a munch.

What is the most rewarding part of BDSM for you?

Like many highly educated women it’s hard for me to let go and really feel. When I’m with James I can let go of the control and give everything over to him. By doing that I get to this peaceful state of mind that allows me to enjoy what he’s doing. I don’t have to think.

How would you react if someone from your family or colleagues read the story?

My first reaction is embarrassment, but when they read these book they’re interested in the lifestyle, maybe even active. But still some of the scenes you’ve described are very – Can you change our names, Karen?

Who from Club Indigo do you think will have the next romance?

That’s a hard question Karen. I’m wondering if Chris might be falling for Suzie, but then Chris flirts with almost every female he comes close to. I would love for Kate to find her HEA, but it will be hard for her given her preferences.

Speaking of Suzie, did you realize your sister Suzie was into kink?

I was as surprised about that as you were, Karen. The way she reacted that one time she saw my marking, I’d never had guessed she ever step foot inside Club Indigo – even for my collaring. Then she hung around after James and I left? I never expected that to happen.

I think our time is up for now Laura, thank you for taking the time to talk with me..

It was my pleasure Karen.

Five Book characters we would like to have a drink with, what to drink and why.

  1. Talisker single malt scotch with Master Z from Cherise Sinclair’s Masters of the Shadowlands series. It’s even better than Glenfiddich and who wouldn’t want to spend time with Master Z.
  2. Water with Jesse Ward from Jodi Ellen Malpas This Man. He’s an alcoholic, hence the water. Interesting company means we don’t need an interesting drink.
  3. His choice of wine with Lord Peter Wimsey from Dorothy L. Sayers series of classic mysteries. Lord Peter was reputed to be an impeccable judge of good wine and his character has always fascinated me. I think I would love to be in a relationship with him, but he’s taken already.
  4. Any umbrella holding frou-frou drink with Ian Taggart of Lexi Blake’s Masters and Mercenaries series. It would be such fun to hear him make sarcastic commentary about the drink.
  5. Diet Coke with Master Dominick of Maren Smith’s Masters of the Castle series, most notably Maddy Mine. He would spank me because he doesn’t drink “diet” anything and I should know better.
